These double-sided coin lockets are extremely hard to find, especially in such impeccable condition, with two full guineas George 3rd coins in 22-carat gold, one on each side of the locket to make the strong secure 'doors'.
Each side has an internal compartment with its original thick clear plastic cover, so both sides can be used to store photos, keepsakes or silks. Currently containing two beige silks (original) along with the card insert behind.
On both coins, the Fifth laureate's head faces right. One coin is dated 1788 and the other 1792, both early coinages; the Spade type with a crowned shield of arms on the reverse containing 7 strings to harp, 7 lions with 7 hearts surrounding one of the lions, a horse, 3 fleur de lis and with the edges milled vertically.
The pendant bails are both chunky and solid, made of 18-carat gold.
This is such a striking, chunky locket (over 23 grams in weight); a fabulous historical piece for your antique jewelry collection.
